26 April 2015 marks one whole year since the tragic passing of Chicago footwork pioneer and TEKLIFE founder, DJ Rashad, aged 35.
At 160bpm, footwork is a genre of fast-paced dance music from Chicago, Illinois, that combines the minimalism and fast beats per minute of ghetto-tech with the traditional boom of bass music.
The scene had evolved from juke and ghetto house well before the rest of the world began to pay attention in 2011, and DJ Rashad and his TEKLIFE crew were instrumental in the development of the scene, the music, and its international recognition.
Fellow TEKLIFE founder DJ Spinn has given us the go-ahead to commemorate and celebrate Rashad’s music and legacy the best way we can in Auckland; with a footwork night!
