Auckland based musical duo Jay Dubs and Hudge have teamed up to bring us a refreshingly vintage project that blends the dusty mpc sounds of the golden era, punchy kicks, luscious sampling and a forward facing rhetoric, hot enough to make a ghost pepper feel like a capsicum.
To celebrate the launch of this much anticipated project and as part of NZ MUSIC MONTH, we decided we had to have a bit of a tear up. On Friday the 8th of May we take to Neck of the Woods with a few pals to do just that!

[via Redbull.co.nz] Harlem has the world famous Apollo Theatre, London is home to the Royal Albert Hall, Los Angeles is the proud custodian of the Hollywood Bowl, and Sydney’s the site of the Opera House – all iconic venues that have played a key role in the storied musical heritage of those cities.
Up until 2007, Auckland’s luxuriously elegant St James Theatre was the go-to destination for the music world’s best and brightest, situating names like Kanye West, The Strokes and Gang Starr in an old world, intimate theatre environment. Since that time, the legendary live music venue has been on ice due to disrepair, with developers held at bay by its Category I status awarded by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust.
Behind the scenes though, this grande dame has undergone a makeover in recent months. The long overdue refit will be revealed today with Weird Night Out, when a line-up topped by the worlds-colliding collaboration of Nick Dwyer and Dick ‘Magik’ Johnson – Weird Together – brings live music back to the St James stage.
