Onur Engin's latest ep of super fine cut finds us in a white '74 Caddy cruising up Harlem River Drive, top down, diggin the NYC scene. The Mizell's epic production of Bobbi Humphrey is taken a notch up by Onur Engin's clean and tasteful edition. Can it be possible another notch up? Emphatically yes - just that extra pump, wonderfully looped and extended intro and we're cruising.
Dropping us down a gear on the flip, Onur takes Al Johnson & Jean Carne's "I'm Back For More" & Gwen McCrae's "Let's Straighten It Out" and takes us in two equally appealing directions. In 'Back For More', Onur Engin reconstructs a deep & stellar voyage. 'Straighten It Out' hits the blue highway with McCrae's unique vocals in full flight. Another great installement of Onur Engin's warm & natural edit series. Don't miss! TRACKLISTING & SOUNDCLIPS: A. Harlem River Drive B1. I'm Back For More B2. Let's Straighten It OutDecember 08 2010

20 Years ago the Groove Merchant record store opened it's doors on Haight Street in San Francisco. The rare funk, soul and jazz emporium became a mecca for collectors, DJs, music fans and producers.
It was also the birthplace for the Luv N'Haight and Ubiquity Record labels. To celebrate this anniversary, Groove Merchant Record store owner Chris Veltri is collaborating with Luv N’Haight and has compiled a tasty selection of rare treats for release on CD, LP, 7" box set and download this Fall.
This particular EP features 2 of the tracks from the forthcoming release plus extended edits by Coppa (Veltri and Bing Ji Ling.) Frankie Gee "Date with the Rain" is a nice funky disco version of the song also covered by Eddie Kendricks (a Dimitri from Paris fave) and Lois Johnson "Be Mine" is an obscure and uplifting Bay Area soul 7" that could be mistaken for something new by Alice Russell. In addition Oakland-based DJ Enki adds a bonus edit of the recent Twilight re-issue "Love's High."
Edits and originals are available on limited edition 12" only, with a digital release to follow featuring only the edits. The forthcoming full-length album will be packaged with an exclusive poster by Props/Wax Poetics designer Freddy Anzures. A super limited edition version will be available as 7" box set. Liner notes will be by Oliver Wang of Soul-Sides.com, who says, "It’s no surprise that the GM has become far more than a retail space. Especially on weekends, you’re likely to find a small block party of disc junkies in attendance, all you need is a BBQ and lemonade stand on the corner of Haight and Pierce to make the cipher complete." 2 tasty re-edits of 2 quality artists. Re-edited by Simon S (Futuristica/Break Reform/Soulclap).
Taken from Roy Ayers' 1971 album 'Ubiquity' This track was a forerunner to the jazz-funk hit 'Everyone Loves The Sunshine' and was originally written by Nat (Cannonball) Adderley ('Hummin In The Sun') before getting an Ayers/Edwin Birdsong arrangement in 1971. Ayers was a pioneer, mixing advanced jazz elements with pop, funk, and rock and Hummin is a prime example of this...a particularly memorable and distinctive calling card. Sun Ra was an innovative jazz composer, bandleader, piano and synthesizer player, who came to be known as much for his Cosmic Afro-futurist Philosophy as well as for his phenomenal musical compositions and performances. 'Where there is No Sun' was released on his album New Steps, released in 1978Tracks & Sound Clips:
