The Joubert Singers - Stand On The Word 12" (FAVORITE RECORDS)
Written By 1 - April 05 2012
Available here on 12"
A musical experience of unification! “Stand On The Word” was first ever recorded live in the First Baptist Church in Crown Heights, NYC, in 1982. Soon after the church pressed up a couple of hundred copies for the congregation, a couple of blocks away from Walter Gibbons’ Jus Born recording studios. Walter Gibbons had already turned new born Christian since a few years, avid Gospel records collector with that, and played the original recording often behind the counter at the 7th av. Rock and Soul shop were he worked. Walter Gibbons must be credited to have revealed this Phyllis McKoy Joubert song to New York most discerning DJs and soulful dance music aficionados, as it quickly became a Garage, Loft and Zanzibar club classic and ended up remixed by Tony Humphries for this wider release. The idea behind this re-edition was also for people who weren't able to afford the original maxi to at least enjoy it on vinyl 12 inch.

Danny Drive Thru / Mr Dibiase - Producer 3 Part 3 12" (FAT CITY)
Written By 1 - April 04 2012
Available Here on 12"
Track List & Soundclips:01 | Danny Drive Thru | Eclipsemoonsun | clip
02 | Danny Drive Thru | Eclipsemoonsun (Trevino Mix) | clip
03 | Mr Dibiase | Driftin Off | clip
04 | Danny Drive Thru | Virtua Ante Up | clip |
The third part of our Producer#3 series. Following his recent release on the Manchester based Mind On Fire label, Danny Drive Thru provides two tracks for Producer#3. Eclipsemoonsun is a deeply burnt piece of atmospheric cimematica, smouldering & minimal. Crumbling drums merge with ethereal voices & weightless keys, its 3 minutes of disintegrating funk. Marcus Intalex under his new Trevino alias remixes. In line with his recent tracks for Martyn's 3024 label & Scuba's DJ Kicks mix he pushes the tempo to create a technoid stepper. Its a dusky production in the 130 bpm realm with a warm electro flourish and darker acidic undercurrent.
After including his smash-up of the “death star theme” on Producer#2 and dropping his debut vinyl with the Cakeology E.P in 2010, the green llama aks Mr Dibiase returns once again to Fat City. Its classic Dibiase, all raw, chopped & loose around the lines, ripping apart some spaced soul parts in trademark wacked-out -cosmic fashion. Danny Drive Thru finishes off with his cover of MOP’s “Ante Up”. Included on the Producer#2 cd, the repsonse was so good we had to do vinyl. Virtual voices mix with lo-fi keys and beats. Tongue-in-cheek, clever, funny & addictive.Date

LOCAL VINYL: Frank Booker - Fall Out EP (SLEAZYBEATS)
Written By 1 - March 26 2012
Due out very soon, to pre-order please contact us at info@conch.co.nz
Tracklist & Soundclips:
Now they've got the messy business of establishing 100% quality out of the way, those lovely chaps behind the SLEAZYBEATS BLOG Dutch/Danish imprint Sleazy Beats Recordings make ready with their 10th and FINAL release in this series.
By way of celebration, the Sleazy Beats gang did up a proper sleeve that features pictures of fans of the label with their records from all over the world!
And the music, well they've secured the unfathomable talents of mr. Frank Booker. The New-Zealand based producer who Co-Hosts the acclaimed Hit It & Quit It radio show with none other than Recloose. He doesn't put out much music (a handful of EPs over the past few years on class imprints such as Untracked, Japan's Wonderful Noise and Fine Art), but when he does get his hands dirty in the studio, the results are invariably exceptional.
Frank's chuggy, fuzzy, understated drums and driving basslines are some of the finest in the game, and he has found a way of weaving samples of old and forgotten soul nuggets into his productions that is neither obvious nor easy, layering sound upon sound and effect upon effect while still letting a track 'breathe' and retain the natural swing of the source material.
As it happens, the 'Fall Out EP' features some of Frank Booker's finest work to date. Title track 'Fall Out' is an irresistable uptempo peak time nugget that cleverly walks the line between moody deephouse and organic disco. Flip over for 'Boss', a pearl of a midtempo track with loads of oomph and drive that keeps building and building. On 'Points', the closing track of the EP, Frank Booker conjures up an infectious beatdown groove with a killer bassline.
A fitting finale to a fine series of releases.

UPCOMING: Devonwho - Strangebrew 12" (ALL CITY)
Written By 1 - March 21 2012
Due out very soon, to pre-order please contact us at info@conch.co.nz
Tracklist & Soundclips: 1. Strangebrew 2. Sleet 3. Cactus 4. Strangebrew (B Bravo Remix)4 track instrumental 12 inch from L.A based via Portland producer Devonwho. Sun drenched synths and G funk vibes are the order of the day here. “Strangebrew” and “Sleet” zip along with their low-slung bass and melodic purple keys while on the flip “Cactus” takes the pace down a bit. Slow jamz with a fast feel, these three rolling 4-4 workouts are rounded off with a fresh rework of the title track from fellow West Coast funakateer - Bay Area’s B Bravo.
