Supported by Gilles Peterson, Benji B, Rich Medina! With a reputation built on his original style and refusal to hop on any industry bandwagon, Ty is best known for his lyrical frankness and honest portrayals of everyday life, setting him aside from many mainstream hip hop acts and allowing him complete artistic independence. This has led to the release of four successful albums and a Mercury Prize nomination, among many high profile plaudits.
After gaining notoriety on the London underground scene Ty signed to Big Dada records in 2001, the same year his mighty debut album ‘Awkward’ was released. The union between the artist and label saw a further two albums - 2003’s Mercury-nominated ‘Upwards’ and ‘Closer’ (2006) - released over five years.
Since his fourth solo album, ‘Special Kind of Fool’, was released in 2010 via BBE records, Ty has featured and collaborated with many artists stretching from America to France. Closer to home, Ty features on a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, released in early 2012, and most recently recorded a track with former Radio 1 DJ and producer Kissy Sell Out.
A lifelong love of hip hop has seen the honest speaking South Londoner gain skills in sound engineering and producing, the latter leading to work with Scratch Perverts, Talib Kweli, Blak Twang and Arrested Development.
Ty is also known for his work as a spoken word artist. Earlier this year he was asked to perform and host workshops for the British Council, which culminated in the conclusion of a 35 year halt on international performers in the Sudanese town of Port Sudan. As well as this, his spoken word efforts have seen Ty put in performances at The Big Chill Festival and The Royal Albert Hall. Alongside his work with the British Council Ty is also a member of The HipHop Shakespeare Company, running workshops with young people, showing the influences and works of Shakespeare in today’s music scene.

Buscrates 16-Bit Ensemble and Sam Champ came up together in Pittsburgh, PA, digging through the jazz and soul sections in the legendary Jerry's Records and then running home to sample and chop up their purchases in an effort to impress one another. This friendly competition continued after Sam relocated to Brooklyn in 2001. Buscrates now plays keys for boogie-funk group East Liberty Quarters (ELQ), regularly DJs in Pittsburgh, produced remixes for artists like Marc Mac, and is featured on the latest Bastard Jazz release, Tempo Dreams Volume 1. Sam has held down various DJ residencies in New York City, released a massively popular D'Angelo Live mixtape in conjunction with Okayplayer, and produced an unofficial remix album featuring D'Angelo (again), Erykah Badu, Usher, and others.
Buscrates and Sam formed Extra Medium to debut Rediscovered, a full-length album based on samples from a single jazz record. The tracks were compiled over the course of several years. The duo just recently enlisted some of their favorite vocalists to contribute to the project. Tracklisting & Soundclips: 1. Know Thy Self ft. Miles Bonny,John Robinson 2. Tonight ft. Zaki Ibrahim 3. Born Again ft. Nicholas Ryan Gant,Fresh Daily 4. Eyes of Dreams (Instrumental)Shuko is a German producer, born in 1981, who has been making music since 1999. He lives and works in an old factory building in a small village near Frankfurt unless he is in Paris, Berlin or New York working with your favorite artist. Shuko has produced music for a broad and impressive selection of artists such as Talib Kweli, Lil Wayne, Sexion d'Assaut, 1995, Cro, Kollegah and Casper.
2013 started off great for the experienced Producer. Having released his well-received instrumental album “Sleepless”, the title seems to be a characterization that perfectly applies to Shuko. With help from California native Blu and the young lyricist Kidaf out of New York City Shuko is ready to drop a vocal version of “Sleepless” called “The Awakening EP”. The record lists five tracks with a perfect mix of lyrics as well as instrumentaltracks and therefor meets the needs of a large audience. Dope lyrics to vibe to and fresh tunes that ensure enough freedom for MCs looking to be creative.
