After the dynamo sophomore release that was 2013's "Curiosities", New Zealand's Lord Echo returns to Brooklyn's Bastard Jazz label, this time producing Kiwi trio The Elder Statesman comprised of twin brothers and Wellington fixtures Christopher (piano) and Daniel (double bass) Yeabsley with Lord Echo himself on percussion. On the "A" side, Montreux Sunrise is mellow meander through a laidback early 70s souljazz vibes, while "Trans Alpine Express" picks things up on the B side with a deep, spiritual piano groove, upfront double bass, and Echo's percussion perfectly in the pocket. A timeless gem of a 7" from Bastard Jazz, releasing their own namesake for once!

After the success of his Marvin Gaye chop ups, Tall Black Guy returns to BSTRD Boots for yet another artist themed 7". Naturally, this time he takes on the Godfather of Soul - no small feat as one of the most sampled artists in the history of music. TBG applies his signature chops and blaps on the apt named JB freaks "Pay Me Back My Money" and "Funky Drummers In A Space Suit" and once again proves what no longer needs to be proven - that he's got the skills and presence behind the boards to separate himself as one of the most unique and talented producers out there. Believe that!
