BK-One - Tema Do Canibal EP 12" (RHYMESAYERS)
Available Here
BK-One calls on legends and some industry friends to breathe new life into one of the most popular tracks from his Brazilian inspired Rhymesayersdebut Rádio Do Canibal. This limited hand numbered transparent green vinyl kicks off with BK-One’s Tema Do Canibal Video Edit, featuring the same edits and scratches from his live sets. Next up producer Exile (Blu, Fashawn, etc.) transforms the driving funk of Tema into a slow off-kiltered slice of pounding Hip Hop. Pushing the Mind The Gap Remix over the top BK has brought along everybody’s favorite weirdo MF DOOM to lace it with his signature villainous flow. Finishing off the A-Side is the Tamba Remix by one of Brazil’s most respected DJ’s and record collectors, DJ Nuts. DJ Nuts strips away the original layers of Tema Do Canibal replacing them with lo-fi keyboards, scratching and an incredible performance by Brazilian legend Helcio Milito on the Tamba, a percussion instrument that he invented in the 60’s. Picking up right where the A-Side left off, Side B starts off with legendary Brazilian arranger Arthur Verocai writing, arranging, conducting and producing a brand new version of Tema Do Canibal! Arthur’s work throughout the 60’s & 70’s has been heavily sampled by many in Hip Hop while his releases have found cult status amongst many re-issuers, record collectors and DJ’s. Rounding out the B-Side of this collectors piece are two remixes sure to pack dancefloors everywhere. First up longtime twin cities DJ and graphic designer Mike 2600’s Journey Into Sound Remix combines a driving four on the floor beat and a “funky worm” take on the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble’s original horn line. This is followed by music afficianado and remix/re-edit staple Tom Noble who replaces the original drums with a disco influenced batucada beat and drenches the horns in reverb for the Disco Ginga Remix.
