The half-Japanese, half-New Zealander is now based in Los Angeles and over the past few years, his CHURCH clubnight has been a mainstay in both LA and NYC with guests ranging from contemporary jazz greats Eric Harland and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, to hip-hop royalty Jean Grae and DJ Spinna, and legendary producers Questlove of The Roots and Leon Ware. Imagine a jazz club mashed up with a dance party siphoned through a hip hop sensibility and you’re starting to get some idea of what might be in store.Witness CHURCH in person, and you’ll see MdCL armed with piano, drum machines and all manner of technological toys leading the way on the bandstand making like a cross between McCoy Tyner and Flying Lotus – all over the piano’s 88 keys, programming beats on the fly while live sampling the guest vocalists and horn players. The man is literally creating records live on stage out of thin air. Surely he must have some plan here, but there’s clearly a heavy dose of inspired improvisation going on.De Clive-Lowe’s next project is to put CHURCH on the record. It’ll be his 11th studio album to date and will include special guest artists and musicians as well as plenty of the surprises that he’s made his trademark. To record and release the new album, Mark is turning to the popular crowd-funding website Kickstarter. The campaign will run for 30 days and supporters will be able to choose from pre-ordering the new album on multiple formats, getting back catalog packs, private lessons and plenty more. He’s even offering lifetime tickets for his shows anywhere in the world.Over the 30 day campaign, MdCL will also be releasing a brand new series of multi camera One Take solo performance videos where he displays the essence of his performance process using a grand piano, drum machine, keyboard and two effects pads. Creating from scratch, remixing and deconstructing in less than 3 minutes. It’s an impressive insight into the tip of his creative prowess."...a timely reminder that some of the greatest producers, in line with the likes of Quincy and Stepney, are also musicians with chops as well as smart adventurers in sound." - Echoes Magazine UKKickstarter Campaign:Sunday 13 October, 2013 4pm -Tuesday 12 November, 2013 4pmLinks:Mark de Clive-Lowe Website Twitter@MdCL FacebookInstagramUpcoming show dates: OCT 11 – Los Angeles with DJ Nu Mark + Money Mark EUROPE TOUR OCT 24 – Bergen Norway OCT 25 – Hamburg Germany OCT 26 – Berlin Germany NOV 1 – Padova Italy NOV 7 – Aix France NOV 8 – Istanbul Turkey
