GIG: Rakaa Iriscience (Dilated Peoples) @ Bacco Room - Sat 5th November
In the lead-up to the release of two new singles, two videos and the new Overdue Magazine, King Kapisi has joined forces with Che Fu and Rakaa Iriscience (from Dilated Peoples) to bring a massive night of true skool hip-hop to Auckland's Bacco Room on Saturday 5 November.
Samoan artist King Kapisi aka Bill Urale needs little introduction. He was the first Polynesian hip-hop artist to receive the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll Award for Songwriter of the Year for his single Reverse Resistance in 1999.
King Kapisi has released three albums - Savage Thoughts (2000), 2nd Round Testament (2003) and Dominant Species (2005) - with local sales hitting the gold status mark.
Che Fu first made his mark as the frontman for Supergroove with their debut Traction which received triple platinum status. After a whirlwind world tour in 95 and 96, Che left Supergroove and teamed up with New Zealand producer D.L.T to produce his first solo album 2 B S.Pacific, whose first single Chains was a top 40 hit. Fingers crossed they'll perform it at this show!
