David Cryer of Beervana and Cryer Malt fame has challenged all of the Auckland craft brewers to make fresh hopped beer.
A fresh hop beer is made from the addition of undried hops rushed from the field to kettle. In this case it was the Waimea variety that were freighted overnight from Riwaka for everyone to work with.
Hallertau Brewery have collaborated with Liberty Brewing Co. to produce an Extra Special Bitter style which weighs in at 7.4% abv. All of the fresh hopped efforts will be released on April 24th with Hallertau and Liberty’s G.C.S.B – Green Cone Special Bitter hitting the taps of The Golden Dawn & Conch Kitchen & Bar – Ponsonby.
