On October 22nd, The Orb featuring Lee Scratch Perry present new single ‘Soulman’ on Cooking Vinyl, released on limited edition 7” vinyl as well as a remix 12"   ‘Soulman’ is an atmospheric, bass-heavy slo-mo house groove adorned with Perry’s spiritual proclamations, which comes complete with killer remixes.  Villod AKA Ricardo Villlalobos & Max Loderbauer deliver thirteen minutes of quirky abstract brilliance, utilising a low-fi bossa nova beat, perhaps in reference to Perry’s classic production on the Congos’ ‘Congoman’. As well as the main Villod RMX, there are two other versions available on the 12”, created with that format in mind.  ‘Soulman’ is the second single from acclaimed album ‘The Orb featuring Lee Scratch Perry present The Orbserver in the Star House’, which is out now on Cooking Vinyl. 

The Orb & Lee Perry -  The Observer At The Starhouse 

Recorded in Berlin over the last few months, The Observer At The Starhouse sparks with a rare magic as Dr Alex Paterson and long-time Orb member Thomas Fehlmann construct a panorama of stripped-down backdrops to provide the perfect backdrops for the Upsetter’s inimitable pronouncements, righteous declarations and sweet vocals.   The Orb have long been known for their assimilation of deepest dub into their stratospheric sonic innovations, as evidenced on U.F. Orb’s Towers Of Dub, itself something of a Lee Perry tribute with its sound effects and distinctive underlying eccentricity. Starting in the late 60s with the Upsetters, Perry wrote the book on Jamaican mixing desk trickery, then constantly ripped it up to create new aural blueprints for the music via his Black Ark productions of the following decade, since then charting a waywardly idiosyncratic path which has ensured legions of followers absorbing his every move. As he states on the new album, he was instigator of the punky reggae crossover, working with the likes of The Clash and the Slits. With Alex’s punk roots, this was a union which could work on the street just as well as in the stars.   Meanwhile, Thomas has been at the forefront of Germany’s electronic music scene since his pioneering avant foraging with Palais Schaumburg in the late 1980s, becoming part of Berlin’s rapidly-evolving techno underground, working with Sun Electric and many of the city’s major artists and operations, including the mighty Kompakt.   Scratch’s vocals glide distinctively over bass heavy monsters such as ’Soulman’ and ’Man On The Moon’, the most overt Orb-dub behemoth on the set, while ’Don’t Rush’ takes the ridim form then dismantles it in subterranean sonic catacombs. House grooves inflect ’House Of The Orb’ and ‘Ashes’ while a funky slide bass-line percolates under ’Thirsty’. ’Hold Me Upsetter’ sparkles with lovely bass-string interplay, while ’Congo’ brings in rolling banks of African percussion, many of the tracks beat with the subliminal rasta heartbeat.   Both parties rework one of their classics; ‘Police And Thieves’, the track which Perry produced for Junior Murvin in 1976, is turned into a bass-heavy vocal vehicle for the reggae veteran, while The Orb’s ‘Little Fluffy Clouds’ is reshaped as the hallucinogenic dancehall clatter of ‘Golden Clouds’.   The mouth-watering prospect of a legendary master working with long-time acolytes who tuned into his unique wavelength long ago blossoms and explodes on The Observer At The Starhouse, which, in the best Scratch and Orb tradition, often takes music where it’s not gone before.

Frank Ocean, is a singer-songwriter from New Orleans, Louisiana. Breaux Ocean made an early career as a ghost-writer for artists such as Justin Bieber, Bridget Kelly, Aramide Makin de and John Legend. In mid 2010 he became a member of OFWGKTA premiering on Domo Genesis' track, ''SteamRoller''. In February 2011 , he released his debut mixtape, Nostalgia, Ultra, to critical acclaim. He released two singles, ''Novacane'' and ''Swim Good''. Both singles achieved chart success. Ocean went on a 7 show tour through the US and Europe promoting the mixtape. Greeen Linez - Things That Fade CD (DISKOTOPIA)

Greeen Linez is a collaboration between Chris Greenberg (from the British electronic pop band Hong Kong In The 60s) and UK-born/Tokyo-based DJ/producer A Taut Line (aka Matt Lyne, co-founder of the Diskotopia label). The project combines the '90s dance music and R&B that soundtracked Chris and Matt's childhoods with the '70s/'80s jazz-funk and synthesizer soundtracks that they have obsessed over in the years since. All of this is filtered through the cocktail of retro pop, fusion and supermarket muzak that Matt has been exposed to during his time in Japan. Following last year's self-titled EP on Diskotopia, as well as remixes for Mau'lin (also on Diskotopia), Darkhouse Family (on Earnest Endeavours), BD1982 (on B.YRSLF Division) and Mi Ami (for a Japanese 100% Silk compilation) , Things That Fade is the debut full-length release from Greeen Linez. The album is a cinematic journey through a fantasy world of music, both familiar and unreal, and as perfectly suited to bedroom dreamers as it is to nightclub dancers.
