Young Turks is excited to announce the release of the self-titled full-length debut by SBTRKT, a South London based producer. SBTRKT (pronounced “subtract”) has recently left his imprint on U.K. music by seamlessly fusing Detroit Techno, Berlin Electro and classic 2-Step into the thriving London Dubstep scene,  although this masked man fits comfortably in any category he wishes to occupy. While massively prolific, a minimalist ethos runs through the work and style of SBTRKT, not just in the name but in the precision of the sonics and arrangements. He has done remixes for M.I.A., Modeselektor & Basement Jaxx, and has previously released 2 EPs via Young Turks (Soundboy Shift and Step In Shadows). While he has had multiple releases in single and EP forms, this is SBTRKT’s first full-length, and about that he says “This release is the culmination of a longer period of constant writing and collaboration, tracks on previous EPs were written as singular pieces. This record is much more of a whole project, more representative of my thoughts and ideas as an artist and each track was completed with the aim to be coherent together.” Stream the album in its entirity below:

Two refreshing house tracks on the A side, and a banging heavy one on the B that leans towards electro.  'Saturday Night Manifesto' is his first new output in three years and it is  well worth the wait.   It starts out smooth and mellow with 'Electric Sunshine', a heartfelt future soul piece.  It then moves on to the bumping groove of 'Parquet', a shaker that carries that signature Recloose funk.  It closes out the night with 'Tecumseh', a dirt-deadly primetime mover.  With 'Saturday Night Manifesto' Recloose delivers a classic EP that reminds us of his 'Spelunking EP   Recloose also has a Serato Colab due out soon as well as a Hit it & Quit it Radio CD release, details to come soon.

‘Brownswood Electr*c 2’ stands tall as a wisened lesson in subjectivity and experimentalism, taking in a new league of artists that revel in sonic possibilities within the low-end territory. Between the 14 producers, with ideas that cross continents (UK, USA, Germany, Australia, Japan) as much as genre boundaries, the variety is pristine and entirely unpredictable. Joy-laden 8-bit dreamworlds (mfp – ‘Future Hopes’) are met with emotive 2-step swings and detailed walls of sound (Jack Dixon – ‘By My Side’), and tearing drum workouts lined with echoey chambers (DJG – ‘Automatic’) storm up alongside the toughly beautiful rhythms of Monky. Perth’s Ta-ku leans on call-and-response chants to fuel his heavy bounce on the enthusiastic headnodder ‘Hey Kids,’ whereas Synkro & Indigo dive deep into soul-searching with their tight, mesmeric roller ‘Knowing You,’ and DJ Dials’ ‘Pillowforts’ is a heartbreakingly sublime encounter with arpeggios. Beastly pitch-bent complexity (HxdB – ‘Savage Pets’), meanwhile, contrastingly bumps up against ethereal atmospheric escapes that serve as a lesson in simplicity (Jus Wan – ‘Miles Away’). With sounds flitting across a wide spectrum, the underlying theme that cohesively ties them all together is innovation.
