Mike Fabulous (The Black Seeds/Lord Echo) and Lawrence Arabia are two of New Zealand's young musical titans. The pair have been quietly collaborating since 2009 - their first and only physical correspondence being two CDs of instrumental soul/funk/lounge/pop that Mike sent from Dunedin to Lawrence's mum's place in Christchurch. Lawrence then went into his childhood bedroom and composed lyrics and melodies over four of the instrumentals within about two hours of receiving the package. The following day in Dunedin, Mike Fabulous received an email containing these early efforts. Over the following two years, interrupted by all manner of world tours, Fabulous and Arabia exchanged further ideas down the wires, and even met up once to record together. Unlimited Buffet is the fruits of their labours and contains flawless harmonies, interjections of brass and smatterings of searing guitar, all underpinned by an elastic and funky rhythm section. It's a buzz-funk extravaganza with playful vocals of the ilk that James Milne is known for, featuring many falsetto refrains and awkward lyrical come-ons. Think of a wild unique mixture of Shuggie Otis meets the Beatles with a NZ twist. The band is a true NZ allstar band featuring Toby Laing and Joe Lindsay of Fat Freddy’s Drop, Lucien Johnson of The Black Seeds and Julien Dyne (BBE) on drums.

After the more experimental vibes of Latecomers last release on MCDE, they are back to bringing you straight up dancefloor material on MCDE1209. Jayson Brothers "Drop Back" has been a hidden gem in Danilo`s sets for quite some time already, and we are happy to finally release it alongside the storming "North & Pulaski".
And on the Bside, Creative Swing Alliance are back on MCDE with their trademark House grooves, bringing us some deep goodness prefectly suited for those Basement sessions we love so much. Last but not least, Pablo Valentino also delivers a solo joint, another stable of Motor City Drum Ensemble`s recordbag since he first played "Like it was `99" on Tim Sweeney`s Beats in Space.

Comprised of eight brothers straight outta Chicago's infamous South Side, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble make their return to NZ since their jaw dropping Womad performance in 2010. They bring their unique and acclaimed show to Auckland's Powerstation on the 20th of July and Wellington's Bar Bodega on the 21st.
Fathered by the venerable Kelan Phil Cohran, himself a one-time member of Sun Ra's cosmic Arkestra, the boys learned early that practice is everything. From the time they were 3 years old their father taught them trumpet, tuba, drums, french horn, cornet and trombone, and as they grew up throughout the 80s and 90s they took their family band to the streets and tourist hot-spots of Chicago where they honed their irrepressible blend of jazz, hip-hop, funk and soul. After playing together for many years and with renewed confidence in their own unique sound, they finally released their debut album of original material in 2000, dubbing their new brand of brass music 'Hypnotic'. The collective moved to New York in 2006, and gained further recognition as they played constantly on the streets and undergrounds on increasingly battered instruments. Despite somewhat straitened circumstances, they were able to release a second album 'Jupiter'. High profile support slots and critical acclaim quickly followed. Since then the brothers have collaborated with such musical heavyweights as Mos Def, Ghostface Killah, Gorillaz, Snoop Dogg, Erykah Badu, De La Soul and a little fella who used to be called Prince. Their reputation as a stellar live act keeps growing their effortless showmanship and natural charm along with some serious musical chops have seen them become a sell-out act in their own right all over the world. Hypnotic Brass Ensemble are:Yoshi – trumpet Smoov – trumpet Baji – trumpet Hudah – trumpet Clef – trombone L.T. - Sousaphone Cid – Baritone Rocco – trombone
