Africa Hitech are Mark Pritchard (of Harmonic 313 / Global Communications / countless more psuedonyms’ fame) and Steve Spacek (of Spacek fame and notable Dilla collaborator). They began bonding over their shared passion for the seemingly disparate spheres of bubbling Detroit techno, soul and fierce Jamaican digital dancehall. Africa Hitech is the moniker which represents both Steve and Mark’s love for all things progressive within music, whilst acknowledging that the roots of much of today’s popular music can be traced directly back to Africa.

n 2009 a close-knit London-based collective of musicians travelled to Kenya to collaborate with local musicians in Nairobi. There they met Joseph Nyamungu – a phenomenal nyatiti player/teacher whose scope of knowledge of traditional Luo music is unparalleled – and Charles Owoko, a drummer specialising in traditional Luo rhythms. A series of inspiring jam sessions concluded with time in a downtown Nairobi studio where the sound developed into something unique, fresh and full of verve .

Frank Booker is well known for releasing on Atlantic Conveyor's label Untracked and works with Recloose also. 'Tell Them'is a beatdown boogie track with a jazz funk/fusion vibe and comes with remixes byKez YM (Yore etc..) and Mark E. 300 copies worldwide only!
Raised on the East Coast jazz and R&B circuit, individual band members went on to share stages with 50 Cent and Lauryn Hill, tour internationally with indie punk band Zox, score movies and commercials and produce solo albums. The Stepkids groove is a fusion of punk and jazz, West African and 1960s folk, neo and classic soul, classic funk and 20th century classical. The band produce, engineer and record themselves on a reel-to-reel.

Top Cat Max Power & Jackie Murdah team up for this smoking ganja tune from the legendary UK MC Top Cat. In 2006 Jacky started the Little Island project, collaborating in Brighton and Barcelona with UK producer Kion on dubby, deep, rootsy material. Tunes by Kion & Murda started to get rotation in crucial UK dances like DMZ, >>FWD , and SuperDubPressure with djs like Mala, Rusko, Tes La Rok, Joe Nice, Nick Argon, BunZer0, Noah D, Daddy G, N-Type and Itchy Robot picking up on the Little Island sound. 2009 also marked the creation of the “JingBong Ting”, a live act comprised of Jacky Murda and Max Powa. Watch out for Jacky’s releases on Argon, Kraken, Moonshine, Renegade Weed, Chopstick Dubplate, Little Island Records.

Here is an amazing mix from the gifted and talented Producer/DJ Quantic. This is essentially a mix performed live during the Timeless Mulatu Astatke event last year in Los Angeles. Featuring various records bought during his 2004 trip to Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia, this also marks the beginning for getting Mulatu Astatke to Los Angeles years later to be a part of last year’s Timeless event series. This Quantic mix is being released in celebration of the Timeless DVD Box Set release featuring Mulatu Astatke, Arthur Verocai, and Suite for Ma Dukes.
