You have to find what works best for you. Some people got that It that is magical. Whatever that It is, you should use it and let it shine like the star that you are. It will take you far." -I, Ced
You may know I, Ced from his composition and production collaborations with artists like Hawthorne Headhunters partners Coultrain and Black Spade. What you may not know is that I, Ced isn’t just a beatmaker, he carefully crafts each body of work with inspired sounds, samples and his own live instrumentation.
Born and raised in St. Louis, MO. currently based in Los Angeles, I, Ced is poised to take his musical pieces to the next level. Heavily influenced by the sounds of vinyl, piano, strings, James Brown, The Sugarhill Gang and gospel music, I, Ced has a wealth of musical inspiration to tap into at any given time. From an early age Ced was seen by his peers and teachers as a musical tastemaker and someone who was to pave the way for like-minded musical heads. In high school he quickly moved up the ranks from a saxophone and clarinet player in the band to musical director in the school theater. This was only the beginning musical possibility for I, Ced.
Late in 2010 Record Breakin’ Music released Ced’s highly acclaimed “Another Look @ U / The Finale”. This limited edition 7” received praise and heavy djs and music fans from Japan, New Zealand, and across Europe and the United States. We are now extremely excited to finally release his debut solo album “All In My Mind”. This project Ced playes both roles as the lead singer and producer of the album.
“It took about four years for this album’s release. It was a long process putting together my vision for this album. I chose for the album to be in black and white because that is the feeling that I got when the album was put together. This feeling came from the message in a songs, the feeling from the instrumentals, even from the sounds or vibe of a track.
This album has some aspects of my life with the common denominator is LOVE. Falling in love, the conflicts, falling out of love and moving on. The funny part is even the relationship with me and music, which is heard throughout the album.
Overall, I hope that people get SOME kind of positive feeling out it. That is really one of my main goals, that all of music and songs that I am involved in leaves a positive imprint on those that hear it. I hope you enjoy.”

Karlmarx - The Karlmarx Project LP (MPM
Available Here
Karlmarx are brothers Isaac Aesili (Opensouls, Recloose Live Band, Eru Dangerspiel) and Mark McNeill from New Zealand. Karlmarx make music from the dark side of the moon, fusing electronica, techno, synthpop, industrial, future soul and instrumental hip hop into something new and exciting – think early Human League meet Kraftwerk and Vangelis in 2011.
They have enjoyed early support by Benji B (BBC 1Xtra) and Lefto (Brownswood). Their song „Mists“ is featured on the current Brownswood comp „Lefto & Simbad present Worldwide Family Vol.1“.
Isaac Aesili is a musician, producer and DJ with a Masters Degree in Political Science from Auckland University. Trumpet is his main instrument but Isaac also sings and plays percussion. He released his first solo album „Eye See“ in 2009. Further he is a member of New Zealand soul/funk bands Opensouls and Eru Dangerspiel and played with the now defunct The Recloose Live Band. Mark McNeill is a producer and sound engineer who studies film at Canterbury University. He was initially the studio engineer for The Shocking Pinks, who are signed to DFA Records in New York. While their musical upbringing was mostly shaped by classical music, jazz and classic rock, both brothers developed an early interest in soul and funk music. “In retrospect the experience of creating this album has been inspirational musically and as brothers because we found so many differences in our music approaches but at the same time so many similarities in our appreciation of music”, says Isaac Aesili about their collaboration. With references ranging from Debussy and Tchaikovsky to John Coltrane, Pink Floyd, Jean Michel Jarre, Dam-Funk or the Blade Runner soundtrack, the eclectic approach of their collaboration seems typical for the New Zealand music scene. “New Zealand is a young country with an old soul and we are lucky enough to have a small scene of musicians playing electronic soul based music. “I’ve played with amazing Kiwi bands like Opensouls, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Shapeshifter and Electric Wire Hustle. We are all good friends and egos don’t tend to be a problem in our scene, it’s more like a family.”
Given the problems one might have labelling a genre for “The Karl Marx Project”, Isaac simply suggests space funk or electronic soul music. After all, the album owes as much to electronic dance music, industrial and synth pop as to deep house, modern funk, jazz and r&b. The result is a progressive and emotional listening experience with stunning cinematic qualities resembling the early works of director Ridley Scott.
This summer, Isaac Aesili is relocating to Hamburg for four month to explore the German house and techno scene and gain inspiration for upcoming projects. “I’ve always been intrigued by the concept of living in Germany, I love the friendly vibe of the people and I’m impressed that they have a passion for electronic and soul music. I appreciate Germany’s depth of culture and philosophy and I think it will be good for me to be around.”

Here is the new track from Jamie xx, the percussionist from The xx. Focus on Caribbean steel drums and very Burial-esque type pitch-shifted vocal.
"Far Nearer"’ is an understated yet powerful production, its ecstatic, steel drum-driven rhythm merging beautifully with the pitch bent and re-interpreted vocal phrase "I Feel Better When I Have You Near Me".
