GIG: Roots Manuva, Thurs 1st March

Hold the throne, Britains big daddy of hip hop and reggae licks ROOTS MANUVA is just weeks away from his most extensive NZ tour, touching down in Auckland to set the Powerstation alight on Thursday March 1st.
Joined on stage by a smokin’ live band, Roots Manuva (Rodney to his mum) will be performing tracks off his latest album 4everevolution as well as playing the classics that cemented his reputation as the voice of urban Britain. Making his mark with 1999’s outstanding debut Brand New Second Hand, Roots Manuva’s classic gravely Jamaican flow has never been matched and his complex subject matter and use of language have developed over the course of the albums Run Come Save Me, Awfully Deep, Slime & Reason and a number of Dub versions and remixes of those albums. Mercury Music Prize nominee Roots Manuva has been a mainstay of NZ radio with tunes like Witness (One Hope), Colossal Insight and Let The Spirit dominating both airwaves and clubs to this day. His distinctive vocals have also been heard on tracks by luminaries such as Gorillaz, DJ Shadow, Coldcut, The Herbaliser and Leftfield. His new album 4everevolution, once again on Ninja Tune offshoot Big Dada Recordings, is a freshly minted classic, intense, cutting and clever. Monster tracks such as Watch Me Dance are grown-up club bangers and the album is widely considered to be his best to date. Mr Underrated keeps on delivering.
